Winthrop Shore Drive Ribbon Cutting
Winthrop, MA - 10/25/18 - Winthrop Shore Drive Improvements project is complete! The Department of Conservation and Recreation commissioner Leo Roy was proud to announce that MDR completed the $16.5 million project nine months ahead of schedule and under budget. The House Speaker Robert A DeLeo and State Senator Joseph Boncore, who were also in attendance on Wednesday, both commented on how this project will make common spaces more accessible to the public and make our MA coastline more resilient to climate change.
The project included: the reconstruction of the roadway and updated crosswalks; new enlarged sidewalks with handicap accessible entrances; improved drainage and storm water management, new universal infiltration system that ties all drains along the beach together; additional ocean side lighting ; new seawall railing and seawall repairs; new park that highlights the history of the narrow gauge railway; rinse stations; benches, tables and seating area, water fountains, bike racks; new and repaired catch basins; and new central water main that serves the entire neighborhood.
